I get what you are getting at, can I put it in laymans terms for you? It's a clusterfu-k! Pure and simple. Will it have a productive outcome, if you ask me, it hasn't so far, will it ever, who knows, it seems a matter of wills so far. Reminds me of Vietnam towards the end, we might as well be playing russian roulette, SOMEONE has to back down sooner or later! How many lives have to be lost before we decide enough is enough???
They obviously don't care how many of thier lives are lost to prove thier point to us, how many are WE willing to lose before we say enough is enough???

kate don't be so pessimistic. in every war that's ever been fought, there were people crying of the quagmire that would never be resolved.
but as Kah correctly mentioned, even Naziism was eventually brought down. think of the quagmire of the American Revolution, how our men nearly gave up at valley forge. and the 4 years of misery in the Civil War. think of the decades of violence in Northern Ireland, and at the end the IRA was defeated.
I understand the question here, and I think he might be onto something. is it really better to go back to status quo, where the fight rages beneath the surface, and the deaths simply come in at a slower pace? or is it better to draw a line in the sand?

Of course. Just as Nazism was destroyed, so will this new threat be dealt with. It is building up to the climax.
