A cricket in the house is good luck. I believe this superstition has a basis in Chinese folklore. However, Charles Dickens wrote the story, A Cricket on the Hearth.
Crickets can be d**n annoying when you are trying to sleep.
A cricket does not actually chirp, they rub their legs together to make the sound. The colder it is outside the slower they chirp.

I don't think them getting into the house is good or bad luck... it's killing them that is supposed to be bad luck.
It is considered good luck if wasps make a nest near your home.
I'm not sure how much I believe in luck at all.... but these are the things I've heard other people say.

There is an old Asian superstition that crickets are good luck, and some folks still keep them in small cages in their homes.

It is bad luck to kill them.
We do not kill crickets in my house.
My kids are grown and they won't even kill them.
Kind of a family tradition now.
