Talk to one of your local dealerships and ask them to let you know when a trade in that matches that description comes in. You may have to buy it from a wholesaler because dealerships may not want the liability on a car in that range...but if it is their brand, you can at least have their garage take a look at it.

No matter what, run a carfax...it won't be a prize for that price range, but it would be good to know about any really bad things...flood damage, salvage title, etc.

(a lot of salvage title cars are still driveable...but don't pay more than $2000 for one)

What I would do if I was you would be visit www.autotrader.com . There you can search a data base of thousands and thousands of cars. You can even customize your search so that only cars in your price range be displayed and also put in a mileage range you are willing to travel for example you can just look at cars with in a 25, 50 or a 100 mile radius of your zip code, that will help you to cut your time down so that you are not wasting your time looking at cars well over your budget. Once you do your search on autotrader and find a car that you like then you need to go to www.NADA.com or www.kbb.com and appraise the car that you are considering. Good luck with your search. Adub.

PS: I noticed in someone's response they said to make sure that you get a carfax on the car that you purchase. That is a good idea but, if you are buying a car from a private seller then you will have to go online and request a carfax yourself. Be careful because carfax will permit you to view very limited information on a vehicle and in order to get the full scoop on a vehicle you will have to pay for it, that is how car fax bait you in. If you have a trusted mechanic he can look at a car and tell you if it was in a bad accident or not. Not every accident is reported to carfax so that don't mean if it has a clean carfax that the car has never been in an accident. Best to have it checked out. If you purchase a car from a dealership then they should provide a carfax to you at no charge.

find a 94+ acura integra coupe

you can usually pick one up for about 2-3000..dont worry about miles..they run forever..if you can get 96+ there a better motor.

You got
RS: base model..nothing fancy
LS: loaded usually without leather.. best value.cheapest to modify..comes in auto/5spd
GS: loaded LS with leather
GSR: Vtec land..only in 5spd. more expensive then a ls..but if you can find one..there great! ive seen them sell for 3-4K..

Or a 93-95 honda civic EX/SI..there pretty good cars too
