My husband and I are house sitting. We found some little baby bunnies about 5" in length. We found one alive, and one not so lucky in the garage. Also outside by the front door we found one dead and a stubborn one who is hopping around the house. My cats finds it very amusing. I put some water and vegetables out, but could it survive?

Baby bunnies in the wild will stay with their mother until they are 15 days old. Their eyes will open around day 10 and she will continue to nurse them until about day 15. The mother then leaves the nest and never returns. Baby bunnies may look small and helpless, but as long as they are furred, eyes open and about the size of a medium human fist, they are old enough to be on their own. The bunnies that you found dead may have experienced some type of trauma. Wild bunnies will fall over from stress very easily and die. It is nice that you are concerned and that you left food out for them. They may or may not eat it. I would try and keep the cats away from them for another week or so until the bunnies find a new place to live. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me.

Bunnies stay with Hugh Hefner until they are about 25 or 26.

Leave them be...unfortunately, I see more baby bunnies as road kill than anything else.

I'm sorry for the deaths, but they need to learn to survive by themselves...don't do anything more than you are, they'll get to depend on it, then not be able to fend for themselves.

I would do the same as you, wanting to help out, but please don't try to handle them or get them used to people...it will just affect them detrimentally in the long run.
