hi! i just wanted to tell you that i am in the same boat as you. i have a 6 month old and i have breastfed her from the day she was born. around 5 months old i started trying to introduce her to a bottle.....i have about 10 different types of nipples i have tried on her, she refused all of them. so i let her daddy and 16 year old sister try to feed her.....nope she wasnt having that either.

the weird thing is....that she loves sippie cups and she will drink out of one.

she also never wanted to take a pacifer at all.

good luck to you and congratulations on your daughter!

Try putting breastmilk in it and try a different kinds of nipples. She just may not WANT to go to the bottle, see if she will take a cup. My daughter was 6 months old when I gave her a cup, but 5 months is a good age to start!

My daughter LOVES the Gerber ones, you do have to be a LITTLE careful though. I have found when my daughter throws the cup the valve comes loose, you just have to pop it back in. I have never had it come out unless she throws it from her high chair, crib, or now when she is mad. I have found it is the ONLY TRUELY LEAK PROOF CUP (except when thrown, then it pours out). The soft spout is easy and since you daughter doesn't like bottles, don't waste your money on Nubby (or they are cheap, you may want to try and see if she likes it). Make sure the first ones have handles so she can learn to pick it up herself.

I had the same problem. We found a nipple (Nubby, I think) that was shaped more like my nipple. If you've ever noticed, it's not round when it comes out of the baby's mouth. At 5 months you might also try to go straight to a sippy cup. Why wean her twice? Persistence will be the main thing no matter what you try. My daughter still doesn't like bottles, but she will begrudgingly take it once she's figured out that it's all she's getting. Good luck.

Forget the bottle...most babies wont take them at all if they havent been taking them by 4 months old. Try a sippy cup. This worked for my daughter and she wouldnt take a bottle - at first, I would give her little sips of water out of my cup...she thought it was fun...it was messy, but she liked it. Then, I took the sippy cup and took the stopper out so it just poured into her mouth...again, it was messy, she would choke a bit - but she realized within one try that liquid came out of it - then I put the stopper in the same day and tried it - she started sucking - now she takes an ounce to two ounces of breastmilk or water from it...it's only been about 2 weeks, but it is substantial progress considering we were trying to get her to take that darn bottle for four months! Ack!

It's too late. You must start them going back and forth right away in the beginning. Just move on to food and sippy cups. Put water in the sippy cup and remove the stopper from the lid, this way she can figure it all out. Makes for a messy meal but, as soon as she gets it you can put the stopper back in and she will suck. At first, the cup will be a new object to teethe on with a surprise of water inside.

At 5 mos she's ready to take a cup. Don't bother with bottles and try sippy cups instead. I did that when i went back to work when my baby was 4 mos. He took his breastmilk in a sippy cup while in daycare..it takes time so be very patient

Try a sippy cup!! Since she had been breastfed.. it may be easier and less confusing to her to take a cup. Then you won't have to wean her off the bottle later...I am sure you would like it since it will be "new" to her!

well, hon, going from breast to bottle is very hard on the little one, and very stressful for mommy too,but Playtex nurser is really good. If you maybe put her on you like you were feeding her, and just give her the bottle, don't offer her the breast, she more than likely won't starver herself, she will just take the bottle. Well, I hope this helps, and Congrats on the baby.

Have dad or a grandparent offer it to her, when you are out of the room.

They can smell your milk, and it makes this harder for them to accept the bottle, esp. if offered by you.

I'd also try the Avent bottles, their nipples are the most like a breast, which may also help.

she is telling you what's best for her, mom. she still needs breastmilk for a long time. WHO says at least 2 years. Don't force her to take the bottle. Respect her human rights.
