first off, i believe you can do anything you put your mind to do. From the way you have constructed your question, it seems like you are educated. What type of education do you have? I'm hoping it is at least high school and if so, you would be fine in the work force. I can honestly say many people over 35 have a middle school reading & math level. Try to start out slow....take it one thing at a time. Work on getting a job where you can support yourself. Of course, you may be told you can't do things but that should be a huge motivation for you to do things to become independent. take everything in baby steps and you will be fine. Set your goals in a reasonable time frame. Keep in touch and email me if you want to talk more. (PS - My aunt told my cousin she could never make it own her own, she is actually metally disabled and she works fulltime and supports her 2 kids, lives on her own)

Sounds like someone is trying to keep you down for your "own good".

Factually, I doubt that there is even such a thing as a "learning disability" either.

So, here's the deal: you're going to have to first get off the kick of "I'm sick" and "I have a disability".

As long as you are in agreement with that think, they pretty much have a great justification to keep you caged up.

Either just "get over" you disabilities, or get CURED. NOT medicatied - they don't claim cures anyhow (It's against the FDA regulations to claim that any drug cures any ill. Odd, isn't it?)

As for cures, they're out there. You better start looking. If you look intelligently and dilligently enough, you WILL find an answer. Just THINK FOR YOURSELF and FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF.

If you do so, you will have won your independence.

you're doing pretty good.... it looks like you know how to use a computer. Why don't you teach yourself to do something on the computer like write a program or using a spreadsheet to keep track of your bank account. I wouldn't worry about it too much. There are many things you can do to show that you are independant. Help out around the house without being asked. Learn all you can about a current event in the news and then discuss it with your family. See what they know about it and tell them what your thoughs on the subject are. This will show them alot.

Start by getting a job. You just have to take things a step at a time. I'm 50 years old but I'm in college so I know a lot of young people who are leaving home under less than ideal conditions. Good luck.

If you think you can, you can. Your parents may want you to stay home because they worry about you or for other reasons. If you want to be on your own I encourage you to do it. There is nothing more liberating in this world than independence. Go for it!

If you are an adult and have no restrictions then be on your own. If you have to depend on others for a place to live, money etc. then they are probably right.
