We started a carpet cleaning business in June and it has been a really slow start--has anyone started a business and how long before it became profitable?

it can really vary much so it is hard to say. typically it can take 1-3 years depending on your area, financing, industry, etc.

are you getting word of mouth referrals? this is a key indicator that you are providing a top notch service.

also, if a customer is happy with your service, do not be afraid to ask for a referral.

There is lot of factors for a business to reach the break-even point and go beyond it.

Few points that come across my mind are "Want" for the product/service (Demand), offer your product/service cost effectively (Compitetion), the best or one among the best in the industry (Quality) and most importantly awareness amount the target audience about your business (Marketing).

If you have all these in place, then probably you will have a flying start.

And if you keep on updating your product and services as per the expectation of your clients(R&D), then you will not have any crash in your business.

Compared to offline businesses, the investment required to start an online business is minimal. A popular way of earning money on the internet is by providing information and services. This can be monetised by advertising or charging a subscription. You can also make money online by selling products on auction websites like eBay or through your own website. a business normally is born when someone has a product or service that customer/s wants or needs. it becomes big when customers are satisfied and returns to avail of this product or service often. it will be big if located in a populated area where people have the same taste or preference. try to advertise, or give free/discounted products or services so that people know that you can serve their needs. when they know that you are giving them something with their moneys worth, you have good business.
