with India?

According to Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs John Hillen, "This sale is a presidential priority and a key element of the administration's South Asia strategy unveiled in March 2005, aimed at broadening our strategic relationships with our key regional partners: India, Afghanistan and Pakistan."

I get that Bush wanted to reward Pakistan for it's help in the war on terror, but won't this action create more problems between India and Pakistan, as well as damage the relationship between the US and India?

Well, we have that tradition of arming our future enemies to uphold and whatnot.

Oddly, Switzerland hasn't learned that tradition. But what do they know, they haven't had a foreign war in 500 years! Amateurs!

one would find my answer biased towards india. but i have full right to do that having seen the terrorism caused in india due to pakistan.

firstly it should be understood and recognised that pakistan is a terrorist country, whose only aim is to destroy the peace in india. In 1965 and 1971 they wedged direct war on india, and faced bad defeats. that forced them to find some other means to disturb the south asian giants; and this time they targeted lay people.

before going any further, i would like to mention the current position of india.india is the largest democracy in the world. it is the third largest economy today. the rate of growth in all fields is enormous. This includes economy, space technology, nuclear research, information technology ( which has been one of the greatest strength for two three decades), electronics, instrumentation, education, aeronotics, naval studies etc. Indians are well known for their brains. ( I don't have the exact numbers right now, but the average indian IQ is much more than average US IQ)

Under the great leadership of the great indian president, the missile man of india Dr. A.P.J. abdul kalam indian youth are looking forward to make india the greatest power in the world by 2020 ( mission vision india-2020). the population of india is over 100 crores. A very high percentage of the population is of young children.(india contains the youngest population in the world) So by 2020, they will be young energetic men and women having the capacity to drive the whole nation to its goal.

When india tested their nuclear weapons, US forced a ban on trades with india, as they did with pakistan and some other countries. India was the only country of those who were least affected by the ban. This makes the todays largest power in the world think about their position.

they can't even launch direct attack on india as they did on afganistan. this is because (i) india is a much bigger power than afganistan (ii) they need indian brains to drive their economy (iii) they now are aware that they are not the emperors of the world, and they can't afford to be critisised throughout the world.

So they have found a comparitively easy wayout. give the weapons to the enemies of india to attack india. The enemies mostly include terrorist (so called jihadi) troups (e.g. jaish-e-mohammad, lashkar-e-taiyaba etc and the pakistani spy agency Inter services intelligence i.e. ISI who train the terrorosts.) and countries like pakistan and china. in this case even if pakistan or terrorists attack india, usa can simply declare their protest and stay away from critisism.

India is a peaceloving nation and will never attack any country for any reason. But the enemies (our neighbors) take that as our weakness. whenever someone attacks us we will show them our true colours, as we have done in the past. So it will be a better thing for Mr Bush to use his brain a bit and stay away from india and pakistan. Offcourse, if he is a patriot, and wants his country to keep climbing up the progress curve
