To me it means that there is a huge difference between living, and merely existing.

I think life should be appreciated at every footstep that we make, and with every breath we take.
If one wants more excitement and frenzy than this, they should try to make every single moment special, in a small way - live up the beauty of the moment, no matter how "insignificant" that little moment may seem.
I don't know... I like it the stable way..... probably due to my experience. When I was teenage, I wanted moments that would take my breath away. Now I want stability, and as few bad surprises as possible.

It is best to live life in awe of the beauty of life around us. The moments that takes our breath away are the reasons we should live, like the cry of a newborn baby, the new mornings that greet us everyday, the birds that sing at the crack of dawn and a whole lot of other things. Life is well lived when we stop and smell the roses because life is too short for us not to appreciate the sights and sounds of our journey.

What it 'represents' to me is, the person who said it was a poor, preoccupied, and misguided dreamer. There's no argument that life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, the duration of our existence. But if someone is going to wait for and cherish only the moments that take their breath away, that person is wasting precious time and missing the daily pleasure that make life worth living.

This is really a comment on how we use our lives.
You can live a dull and boring life and never have moments that "take your breath away."
Conversely, you can abandon your inhibitions at times and create magical moments that live in your memory forever. These are the moments when your breath is taken away.
In 1989, I dated the high school princess, and in the back of dad's Dodge Aspen we created moments that took our respective breath away.
Hope that helps.

Your inquiry reminds of something that I learned in college while studying Native American History. Native Americans had a completely different concept of time. In fact, one male Indian had put symbols on a Wampum Belt to represent the most important issue of the past year, which was the stealing of his much revered horses. Or, have you measured out your life with coffee spoons?

It's a neat sentiment, but most people still would count the number of breaths, especially when facing the end. People tend to fight their deaths, unless of course life is very hard on them or they think they might get 72 virgins from the moon-god Allah.

It's not how long you live your life, it's how you live it.
