Very harmful, just look at what is going on in Israel and Lebanon. Over the centuries look at how many people have died for the sake of "religion" Too many self serving dogmas from all religions have hurt too many people. Most religions have some form of fallacy anyway and tend to be focus on the bottom line - $$$.

I suspect the answer to your question depends on whether you are a religious zealot or just a believer in God. Faith in God in the hands of a zealot can become harmful when the person tries to push their beliefs on others without regard to their feelings. These are the people that the atheists like to focus on when they have their discussions of how crazy religious people are. I would agree with them that this type of person is a danger because they forget about the concept of free will and think they can force someone to share their belief system (much like the zealot atheist!). I think belief in God is a wonderful and beneficial thing when those that believe live their lives with the moral and ethical values that the Bible speaks of.

I believe that the belief in the one true isn't harmful. It is hard living the life as God wanted you to, but in the end it is worth it. I am not just talking about heaven either. Once I had accepted Christ Jesus as my personal savior, I found myself to be generally happy all the time. That's not to say that there weren't hard times, but I got through them just knowing that there was always someone who loved me, someone who was there to catch me and accept me. The only thing that can come out of loving, believing and living the life of God is true happiness.

beneficial, If you didn't believe in a higher being then how would governments control you. It is not because they have guns, because everyone has guns in America.
the Harmful side is when governments use religion to hurt others, like the catholics consent of the slave trade, or when they use God to justify war.

Believing and having faith in God (or gods, perhaps?) has pulled many people out of the worst situations, so I would say it's beneficial to humans.

It is both and neither. Spiritual belief seems to be a biological part of our nature. Every human society has a spiritual and/or supernatural component. One may as well ask if sex is good or bad for humans.

belief in the one true god the father, the son and the holy ghost is very beneficial to us humans.. without our believing in god we are doomed for eternity..john 3 16 says whoseover believeth in me shall have everlasting life.. i believe in the bible and that the lord will come again and we will be held accountable for all our deeds , beliefs and every word that proceedeth out of our mouth...so without knowing god as your personal savior we are lost...

I don't think belief in anything is necessarily bad. It's when people try to tell others it's unacceptable for them to believe something different. That's when things get ugly.
