Elevators are weird things. They are small little boxes that we have to ride to get where we need to go. The idea of a packed elevator means that other people are "invading" your personal space. Everyone has their own personal space box and in an elevator it is breached. As for the eye contact, if you make eye contact with someone you are most likely expected to say hi, smile at them, or the like - many people just don't want to communicate with other strangers on the elevator.

Would or do you feel comfprtable with someone in a closed elevator making eye contact with you-wouldnt you feel a scee tad uncomfortable if the guy in there with you is close upon you and giving you the eye.Dude could be the"ELEVATOR TERMINATOR"

Probably for the same reason no one makes eye contact in a train. They've got the New York stare going on...

Because elevators are awkward. A bunch of strangers crammed into a moving box...it's just never a very comfortable situation.

somebody is obssesed about elevators tonight....
cuz it is hard to make contact with people in such a tight , usually warm space that can only be defind as a cell on cables.
