I agree Mater-nazi had it coming.

At first I kind of felt bad about some poor Italian player getting treated like this by a French superstar. But then I started to read up on Materazzi and my view changed completely. Materazzi is an a*shole. Even in his own country he's known as an animal and a deliquent, because he fouls other players very hard. Also, Zidane and Materazzi have known each other from before, so the bad blood was there for a long time.

My only regret is that Zidane didn't head butt him a few inches higher so that he could have broken Maternazi's nose.

Oh please stop defending the superstar. No matter what Materazzi said, It was not right to headbutt anybody during a match. You can headbutt people later, outside. Please think with open-mind and objectivity.

"but he provoked him!" ok. provocation, while you think Materazzi provoked him, Zidane was actually the first one who did a provocation by saying "If you want my shirt, i can give it to you later".

It doesn't take a genius to understand what is really behind that line. It's both an attitude of a big-headed arrogance and an insult to Materazzi as a non-famous player (who would be happy if the great Zidane gives him his shirt.)

If you saying that "however Zidane is a human", and i got news for you: so is Materazzi. He's a regular man. When he heard Zidane said something arrogant and indirectly insulting, he simply replied him back with some nasty words as a bitter pill for his arrogance.

However I don't like people insulting each other. I never a fan of Materazzi. I liked Zidane, i think everyboy likes Zidane. That dribble, that freekick. oh... BUT. I see this case objectively.

I'm really curious what would people think if the case was the other way around. Materazzi headbutts Zidane. Perhaps people would (suddenly) be more objective and say "no you can't do that, no violence in sports by any means! please be professional." isn't it?

All this just because Zidane is a great player and that was his last match hence all the sympathy.

Zidane also doesnt deserve the best player trophy. Cannavaro deserves it. The defender who's well known for his hard playing style didnt get even 1 yellow card and succesfully managed to defend his team almost perfectly.

But, this is a little psychology, you see, the "hype" of Zidane decided to do a comeback to the national team and would be retire after that was started before the WC begin. So by then everybody had been talking about Zidane, Zidane, Zidane and Zidane. "What a great player he is, and man, he gonna really retire after this you know, etc etc etc did u see his goal when Real Madrid against...damn i forgot, anyway, it's damn powerful, it's a left kick shot, yeah! and what? say it again? a best player award? ofcos Zidane! why u even ask that?hahaha."

See?

No Zidane wasn't right to headbutt Materazzi and Materazzi wasn't right to insult Zidane's family but I think Zidane has done more wrong in this situation

I expect such behaviour from kids in a school yard. These guys are supposed to be professionals. Trash talking occurs in every sport. Only immature fools are offended by it. And when they do something stupid like Zidane did, the price they pay is high. This is precisely why players employ the tactic--it often works. Do you think that if someone more cerebral than Zidane, say a chess grand master, were insulted by his opponent, he would stand up and kick his opponent in the testicles? Just wondering.

Secondly, no matter what anyone says, it does not give anyone else the right to assault the person. The police would be pretty busy if everyone who is insulted every day were to retaliate by physically assaulting the person. Even most children know "Sticks and stones..." Grow up, people.

i think it wasn't right for him to headbutt materazzi so what if he was talking trash about his mother, think if he didn't headbutt him they could have won the world cup because he's a very good penalty kicker and i was hoping that France would have won,ya and that's a great way to end your career and if i was him i would have kicked his butt after the game.

No. He should have just started crying so Materazzi would have felt bad and said "I'm sorry, Zizou" and then they could have kissed and made up.
