With such artist like 50cent, The Game, DMX, Ja Rule, and I could go on and on, artist such as these are just frontin all talking about the same thing. Pimpin, dealing, bitches, shooting, money what they drive, their life style, what they wear, and who they shot. Oringinality and intelligence doesn't exist in mainsteam hip hop anymore. And that's why guys like me have to go underground and listen to guys like Mos Def and The Roots because mainstream hip hop is to commercialized.

I agree. The mainstream media has been oversaturated by a lot of cookie-cutter rappers who spout nonsense because right now, they're the ones bringing their record companies the most money. Some, like me, might be old enough to remember this and some might not be, but back in the late 80's and early to mid 90's there was a lot of variety and substance to rap. You could turn on the radio and hear conscious (as in socially/politically conscious), gangsta, old-school, jazz-infused, comical and storytelling styles of rap back to back in one sitting (or one car trip). THAT is what's sorely lacking in mainstream rap right now - variety and substance. There's nothing to choose from anymore, kinda like going to McDonald's and seeing nothing but fries on the overhead menu.

Good thing I was introduced to underground hip hop a few years ago. Otherwise, I'd still be sittin' here with Midnight Marauders on repeat, reminiscing about the good ol' days - lol

Saul Williams
The Roots

Blackalicious

etc. etc. etc.

I feel the same way. Those "artists" suck. All someone has to do is tell some idiot they have talent, and the jerks go off ruining the whole musi industry. I for one am tired of their foul little mouths.
