Vlad Tepesch (Impaler), the son of Vlad Dracul (Devil). Hence the name 'Dracula' (son of the Devil).
He was born in 1431 and died in 1476. He was the Prince of Walachia in the Balkans. South of of Romania (formerly Transylvania) and east of Serbia.
He was known for his cruelty (hence the 'impaler', he would impale enemies and then actually have dinners surrounded by the decaying bodies). One time a group representing a Turkish Imam came to give their respects.
They refused to remove their turbans, explaining it would be against their religion.
Vlad obliged them by nailing their turbans to their heads.
In another story he invited the poor and homeless to a feast. Then locked the doors and had them burned alived.
He was eventually caught and beheaded by the Turks.
Payback's a bi*ch.

btw- I once went to a Romanian restaurant (I had the rabbit). They had two portraits on the wall. One of Michael the Brave, the other of Vlad.
I guess your opinion on how evil you think your leader was depends on where you were born.

Vlad III Basarab (other names: Vlad Ţepeş IPA: ['tsepeʃ] in Romanian, meaning Vlad the Impaler; Vlad Draculea in Romanian, transliterated as Vlad Dracula in some documents; Kazıklı Bey in Turkish, meaning Impaler Prince), (November or December, 1431 – December 1476). Vlad III Basarab was voivode of Wallachia principality (today a historical region of Romania). His three reigns were in 1448, 1456 to 1462, and 1476.

As voivode he led an independent policy in relation to the Ottoman Empire, and in Romania he is best remembered as a prince with a deep sense of justice and a defender of Wallachia against Ottoman expansionism. His impact on the expansion of the Ottoman Empire is recognizable in that his successful hold against the Ottomans bought precious time for western Europe.

Yes, there was a real Dracula, and he was a true prince of darkness. He was Prince Vlad III Dracula, also known as Vlad Tepes, meaning "Vlad the Impaler." The Turks called him Kaziglu Bey, or "the Impaler Prince." He was the prince of Walachia, but, as legend suggests, he was born in Transylvania, which at that time was ruled by Hungary.

Vlad Dracula, or Vlad the Impaler as we all known today, was born in 1431 in Sighisoara, Transylvania. He was given this name because of his cruelty which was best exhibited when the Turks invaded his Wallachian princedom, where en route to the capital Tirgoviste, the army witnessed a horrific sight. The road was strewn on either side with the bodies of 20,000 Turkish captives and every single one was impaled.

He was a ruler of a place called Transylvania a.k.a modern Romania (or possibly Hungary) in the Middle Ages. He was known for impaling his enemies on sticks, thus the name Vlad the Impaler.

Vlad the Impaler was the inspiration for the movie Dracula. There is alot of interesting stories about him on the Internet if you do a Google search.
I believe he was the first person to practice the scorched earth policy. When he was forced to retreat his army would take or burn all food and resources so the pursuing army would be forced to break off the chase.

He LIVED in Romania (1431-1476), and I've SEEN the TORTURE Chambers he used!! It's JUST like in the cartoons. When a prisoner, he hated, or he felt deserved the ultimate punishment for the crime, was brought before him on the top floor, in his office, Vlad would actually pull a lever, to cause the man to drop 30 feet onto STAKES sticking up at the bottom of the DROP!! This prisoner would bleed to death, and sometimes Vlad would drink!
Later Vlad was imprisonned for all these crimes, and he would kill rats, and mice in his cell, to eat, and partake of their body fluids!
All that is where he got the name IMPALER !

Well your going to love this one. Vlad Dracula was the prince of Wallachia. His story is really intriging and you can find all kinds of interesting stuff about him by just typing his name into any web brower. One of the things that you will learn is that he was married later in life to the sister of Matthias Corvinus who was the King of Hungary. That has special meaning for my family as Matthias Corvinus was my great-grandfather x14 which means that we are related to Vlad Dracula my marriage but thank goodness not by blood.
