i always have lower back pain and usually attribute this to stress. however, the other day i was rubbing the area and felt a small lump. it's a few inches from my spine, and is hard and rolls under the skin as i move my fingers. pushing on it hurts. any idea if this is a bad thing? and what might it be? please help, i hate doctors and don't want to go to find out it's nothing...

Could be cancer.
Could be a harmless cyst.
Could be a parasite living under your skin (unlikely, but possible).
You need to go to a doctor. Only a doctor can tell you what, if anything, is wrong there. If it's cancer, it could be a matter of life or death. I wouldn't gamble with that sort of thing merely because of a dislike of doctors.

It might be a boil coming to the surface...or a simple benign cyst. The nice thing about doctors is that, even if you have nothing to be concerned about, they rule that out for you. Doctors are worth peace of mind, don't you think? Make an appointment.

Even if it's nothing, it would be better to know that for sure, so (and I'm with you on not being a big fan of doctor visits) I'd get it checked out. Sounds like a cyst, and It'll be OK.

well, the best thing to do is to go to the doctors because no one can really tell you what it is untill you get it checked. It can turn into something bad so i suggest you go and get it checked right away. God Bless

It may be a ganglion cyst or a fat deposit, if it rolls around its probably not cancer, my Dr. told me a cancer lump doesn't hurt! But a ganglion cyst does really bad!I had one on my wrist!

no lumps are a good think and if it is cancer you better get to a doctor asap or you'll be regretting it

it sounds like it might be a cyst
if so, it might need to be drained or removed all together... i would be extra concerned since it is near your spine.

you should definately get it checked out. Wouldnt you rather find out its nothing then keep wondering if it could be something
