I was watching Geraldo Large today. There was a topic about Wal-Mart not taking the time out to prosecute shoplifters who steal under $25.
Thanks Geraldo for doing a story on this. Maybe the word will get out and people will steal you blind and you will go back to prosectuing those who steal...
What kind of message does this send out to our society. It is not ok to steal at any price!

Wal- mart should put out a big sign that says " come on in and shoplift"

I agree. But you need to take in consideration that Wal-mart is ultra rich prosecuting a shoplifter for a merchandise value under $25.00 cost them even more than the value of the item. They rather let it go and not letting the perpetrator in their stores ever again that prosecute them. A smart economical move on their part. Imagine how many people steal things at Wal-mart on a regular day. Not once but more than 1,000 times. They simply don't have the time or resource for it.

they will not prosecute somebody for an amount of 25 dollars or less, but they have to be photographed, have ID, and cant not come back into the store. they would rather concentrate on the larger thefts that happen. they are not going to just let people walk out of the store with the product. the story was also on national news not just "geraldo at large".

Stealing is wrong whether it's 25 cents or 25 million, anyone that steals a 25 dollar item will next time steal a hundred dollar item untill he or she is stopped. Here in the border towns next to mexico I've seen individuals from mexico that come across to shop actually eat several items while in grocery stores along with beverages and then leave the remains in the aisles without paying for them,it's becoming almost part of the routine.

Shoplifting in Wal-mart would not warrant slicing off someone's' hand, good grief!! yet, shoplifting isn't accurate. And in case you won't be able to spell acceptable little woman, that is time you want to spotlight getting a extra proper coaching so that you'll get a tremendous activity interior the destiny so that you may want to purchase things you go with instead of stealing them. you comprehend accurate from incorrect, and in case you do not, that is time you discovered. no longer being harsh, you placed it out for the established public to be certain that you shoplifted. those who shoplift reason businesses to lose quite some money. meaning, those those who keep there might want to pay better prices to pay for what you probably did. that isn't any longer accurate. i favor issues, yet i do not scouse borrow them. and also you've were given no accurate to take some thing that would not belong to you!!!!! possibly in case you and your sister bypass see the choose, you'll study your lesson!!!

I thought from what I have read in the past that wal-mart was one of the leading stores in prosecuting shop lifters. No matter how low price the item is. When did this change?

For some retailers, it's hard to enough to even get the police to come out for shoplifters. Walmart's new policy actually puts them in line with most other retailers.

It tells me Geraldo is an unethical idiot who's willing to air a story that has only negative value just to make a buck.

I'm pretty sure it cost more than $25 to prosecute. Maybe with such a low amount, they let them off with a warning
