Hazleton, Pa passed a law that mandates that all official business in only English. Food stands are popping up all over with "This is America. When Ordering, Speak English." I wanted to know your thoughts if you went to Germany and you saw a "This is Germany. When Ordering, Speak German" sign (in German of course) while trying to get something to eat

We pass English only laws because this is the US and English is the official language. If I was in Germany, and someone told me that I had to order in German, I would say "What perfect sense you make"...in German of course.

Have you been to Germany? They ignore you if you speak English. Even though it is required in their schools for them to learn. You know most people that are traveling do try to learn the basics in the native language. Don't assume all Americans are arrogant, also don't assume other countries don't feel the same way some (not all) Americans do about foreigners. Most of them do. Have you not read the news? Most countries HATE Americans. What made you think that in the first place?

When did we pass an English only law? Requiring official business to be done in English (which we haven't done, but should) doesn't prevent anyone from using other languages in normal life.

If you moved to these nations, most do not give you any government benifits for being there illegally or allows you to work if you are illegal, This nation is fed up and tired of all of the illegals and they are making it known.

next if you don't want to eat or support these places, if they lose business it will stop, but I would bet their business increases as they stand thier ground.

We believe we are superior to everyone else and that they should conform to our vision of the world. This is similar to our idea of exceptionalism which is that we don't have to abide by the same laws as other nations. It's convenient and it's hypocritical.

Because it's an English only law.

Do you think US laws should just stop at the US border?
