Always use jewelry cleaner (follow the instructions) or a mild solution of ammonia and water with a soft toothbrush followed by soapy water, rinse, and dry.
Real gold doesn't usually tarnish, it just gets dirty.

Go to a jewelry store, they sell good jewelry cleaner.

What I did if I do not have some fancy store bought goods.. is to rub it with lemon.... juice or cut a lemon and rub it on the jewelry... and then wash it with soft soap suds..
