The difference is, most aren't born with an umbilical cord still attached.
The human brain has evolved much faster in recent time, and our head has grown ever larger than our ancestors', even in the womb. So in order to actually get out of the birth canal we have to cut short our gestation period. Being born much earlier, we are more defenseless and have a crap learning curve when we are born (compared to say a baby giraffe which can fall 20 feet, get up, and start walking).
In other animals, the umbilical chord actually finishes serves its purpose while the baby is still in the mother, and chord dissolves and the nutrients get reabsorbed into the body.

All placental mammals have belly buttons, since that is where the placenta was attached while in the womb(albeit connected via the umbilical cord). Non-placental mammals such as marsupials (Kangaroos, Koala bears, opossums) do not, as well as the few species of egg laying mammals. I personally think none of the other species have belly buttons that are anywhere near as cute as those of our human females. But the real question is: Does God have a belly button? If you believe every word of the Bible literally, then he certainly does have a belly button, since man is created in God's own image, right? So when was God attached to a placenta? I think they left that part out of the Bible.

The belly button is a scar left by the remains of the umbilical cord. All mammals (except for the duckbill platypus) connect to a placenta by an umbilical cord before birth. In other species, the umbilicus is not as visible as a human navel, but it is there.

All mammals have belly buttons like humans, with the sole exception of the Australian duck billed platypus. This mammal hatches from an egg, so has no umbilical cord. Every other mammal has a belly button.

Most of the mammals do have as this is the attachment of umbilical cord through which the growing fetus gets nutrients from her mother.
