I have 2 oscars in my tank. we bought a molly to go with them. The molly survied for about 5 weeks then died. We put 2 new mollys in and they died the next day. Why didn't they last as long as the first one.

An Oscar usually kills another fish that they see as a food source.. maybe that's what happened... the one that lasted five weeks probably lasted that long because the Oscar didn't realize it was a food source at first.. but when you put the new Molly in the Oscar knew right away!!
If the Oscar couldn't eat it all at once it will kill the Molly and eat half at a time..

Oscars do eat anything that can fit into their mouths, so anything that you introduce will look like food to them. One exception with Oscars is that if they grew up with a fish that is considerably smaller, they may not eat them. Oscars are extremely intelligent and they will recognize a tank mate against a feeder fish.

Your original molly was probably a tank mate, and that is why it lasted so long. Unfortunately, the molly is a normal feeder to the Oscar. I've had glass fish, bikers, and very small cichlids with my Oscar and if it was there before or introduced at the same time, the Oscar would consider them a tank mate.

The first molly just got lucky. If you want a molly to last with an oscar you best get a small oscar with a molly either bigger or the same size as it. But Oscars grow incredibly fast and will eat them sooner or later. You can't mix tiny passive fish with carnivores like Oscars.

well, for one, the oscars will for sure eat the mollies. I believe oscars are aggresive fish. They are bigger than mollies. They may have died because the oscars picked at them, it can be anything. Mollies should be with other fish like of their own kind, or guppies, etc.

what sized tanks are we dealing with. an adult oscar needs 75 gallons so 2 would need a tank over 125 gallons. Being an large cichlid, they will attack anything usually. So i would never understand why a molly would be placed with an oscar unless for food.

Your Oscars are probably after them. Oscars are not good community tank fish. They should only be with other Oscars or by themselves. They will end up eating other fish, especially smaller ones. I had an Oscar once that I used to feed goldfish to.
