I'm trying to increase my milk for pumping.

Oatmeal does work for many women. However, it (like other "galactagogues") will only work if you are *also* nursing or pumping enough. Most women need to nurse at least 10-12 times in 24 hours to see an increase in production; with pumping (because it is less effective), you might need even more than that. Be sure to use *whole* oatmeal; everyone I know who has had good results has used it. "White" oatmeal (including instant) is missing some of the bran and germ and may not work the same way.

>really just eat a lot of any thing because milk is mad from fat and the more fat there is the more milk you will make and do work out but you make take one or two walk a day because when you work out you can dry up your milk<

Sorry - this is NOT true!
Your breasts only make more milk if milk is removed.
The more frequently you remove milk - by nursing or pumping - the more milk you will make.

It also depends on the kind of pump you are using.
Most of the cheaper pumps simply do not work very well after the first couple of weeks.

If you are going back to school or work and will be pumping regularly, it is a good investment to buy a decent pump like the Medela Pump in Style. It will save you a fortune in formula costs!

Make sure that you get a NEW pump.
Breast pumps are like toothbrushes - they are personal care items and can spread germs. Only the rental pumps (like they have in the hospitals) are *sealed* and suitable for multiple users.
Even if you know the person who previously owned the pump, remember that like everything else, they do wear out, and your *bargain* may end up costing you a lot!

There is no scientific evidence to back this up, but it does seem to work for some moms. I know many moms who reported that, if they ate oatmeal for breakfast then they could pump more. Many LC's and LLL Leaders do recommend it as a potential supply booster.

Tuna fish is another food that is said to boost supply. Of course you would want to eat tuna in moderation.

There are herbs that you can take to boost supply as well. Fenugreek is the most commonly used one. Some moms find that combining it with alfalfa or blessed thistle gets them better results. The typical dosage for fenugreek is 3-4 capsules 3x per day. PLEASE NOTE.....you should NOT take fenugreek if you have a peanut allergy, diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma or heart disease!

There are some other links on supply that may help you below as well.

Well. I don't know about oatmeal. It will give your milk a better flavor, but to increase milk supply talk to your man. If you understand what I am saying.

Just remember the more sucking, the more milk.

I ate oatmeal every day during a time when my supply was down. It made a big difference. You can also try an herbal tea called Mother's Milk, which contains fenugreek. Good luck!

The best thing to increase your milk supply is to nurse when your baby wants to without looking at the clock. I don't believe there is any miracle way to get more milk. It's supply and demand..the more you nurse the more milk you produce

Just keep pumping. The more demand, the more that will come in. Also - very important - make sure you are getting good nutrition and plenty of fluids. If you don't drink enough, you can't produce as much milk.

HOORAY for a mom who is doing the best thing for her baby! Check out the link for support.

it actually DOES work but you need to eat a LOT of it for it to work, like way more than a person would want too ;) there are herbal teas, fenugreek, and prescription medications (reglan) to increase your supply as well.
