Well points (2) are 16 feet down -- about 8 feet apart. One year old. mostly for lawn sprinkler system and hand-held hose for flower gardens and vegetable gardens.

How do we solve color problem, which we believe is from hgh iron content in water?

Considering water softener, but not sure if it's cost effective. Town water is very expensive.

Or maybe there's a simple way to periodically clean 100 feet of fence both sides?

Two good answers so far, I'm hoping for additional suggestions.

Sounds like high iron. sometimes an iron pocket will come out years after you've had the well put in. I think if you checked your local hardware store they sell a cleaner now specifically for vinyl cleaning ie; siding, fencing ,anything vinyl.

Growing up in Maine we had the same problem, yes iron in the water, but it was our main water and only water supply. We could never wash anything white, it had to be taken to a Laundromat until we got a water conditioning system. I now own the old farm house and rent it so can not remember the name, but the tenants still use the same company. If I remember correctly, (it was my parents house at the time), the water company owns the filter system, they would just come every month and change the filter. Presto... clear water, so yes it can be cleared up but do not remember the monthly price. Check your local phone book for water conditioning companies and give them a call, what do you have to loose, it could still be a lot cheaper that your town water. As far as your clean up now, have you tried an Oxy type product? That might do the trick.

You need a water softening system. If your town water is very expensive figure out how long you would need to recover the cost of a softener by comparing to your saving on town water. Add in the cost oc cleaners to remove rust from your fence and concret patio, etc. plus your labor.
