This was a great question and I unfortunately see its horrible dark side since I am a mammographer. I can spot the type (narcissism) they are highly groomed, dressed to the tee, heavy makeup, highly critical to their mates and very rude to those around them. I do not know why God made such people! God made us all beautiful, with silly little imperfections like the beautiful wild flowers.

I agree. Many women do this because of who they see on TV and in magazines. I am a healthy over-weight woman, and I wouldn't go under the knife to look like anyone. I am happily married and my hubby's opinion is all that matters. Plus, a lot of women may feel insecure about their looks. If you are happy with the way you look, why change it?

Society perpetuates a few myths:
1. Looks is the best indicator of personal self worth
2. Money makes you happy
3. Drinking is normal
The road is paved in life for people to do that which is bad, but to do what is right is a constant uphill battle.

Because of the impossible standards set by today's media, movies, celebrities and society.
And you're right. I say, plastic surgery not necessary unless one is deformed or burnt.
Also, another thing is the availability and accessibility of plastic surgery. Don't you think? MTV's showing teens going under the knife.. there's Nip/Tuck. And the ideas seep into us. It seems more acceptable. As if everyone's doing it.

Vanity. Plan and simple. But it is shoved in our faces all the time. That beautiful is in. And most people don't look beneath the skin when judging beauty.

Because this is AMERICA. And we are in a day in age where we don't have to settle if we don't want to. If the technology is there, why not take advantage of it if something bothers you and you have the money? Why does everyone HAVE to be satisfied with the hand they were dealt? Who says? The self-esteem police?
THank God we have the Freedom to do with our bodies as we please and not have to answer to anyone.

Anyways, any woman who gets cosmetic surgery who says they are doing it for themselves "to make themselves feel better" is a straight out lie.
People who get cosmetic surgery only want to attract attention from other people.
When you break it down, this is how it sounds,
"I wanna cut my boob open and put in a plastic bag filled of silicon to make myself feel better."

Because they have low self esteem and don't realize what they see in magazines and on television is fake. There is no such thing as perfection, we all have flaws.
