Because thats one of the ways badguys get the Malware delievered to your computer.
I do not recommend using Limewire or Kazza or P2P programs because they ALWAYS contain spyware / adware and I have repaired many computers because of the other programs they download in the background with out your knowledge. It's like opening a floodgate and they eventually clog your computer until it's useless.
I use bit torrent.
(but you should still scan the files before opening them.)
The speed is determined by not just you but the other users. They might have a slower speed, or there could be heavy traffic (your end or theirs) slowing it down.
Some times other users sending you files log off and your stuck waiting till the next day when they log on again.
There are so many possibilities.
I have had a few 700MB movies take over a Week to get it all, and some never finish because when the other person is done they stop sharing.
Hope this helps, and remember to share at least 110% or for one week which ever comes first to help others.
I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)
The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)<--English version
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.
These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.
The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

You have to be careful when you are downloading files from P2P file sharing. P2P sites are notorious for containing malicious files, such as: viruses, spyware, adware, Trojans and other malware. Hackers loving using these sites because they can easily disguise one of their malicious programs and lure you in to downloading it. Oftentimes, that music file you downloaed also comes with a Trojan.
If you are going to use P2P file sharing then you should install some protection on your PC. If you suspect that your PC is infected with a worm then you should download a standalone anti-Trojan software program like Ewido. Antivirus aren't too good at removing spyware, worms or Trojans. Ewido is free to download and use. You can download the program at: http://www.ewido.net/en/. After you have installed the program, update it and then run a scan. It happens. People post infected files without knowing it, from their virus magnet Microsoft computers.
I run frostwire, instead of limewire. Frostwire is the basis for the 'premium' limewire that people are charged money to have.
I bypass the exchange of money, and go for the FREE, Open Source, software. It is better, with more users, more reports, more sharing. It is free, and some folks would make you think that they invented the program you are buying, but, they only hijacked it!
I ditched Microsoft, for Linux, long before they switched all their 15,000 Microsoft.com and their 15, 000 Hotmail.com servers to Linux!
I am currently running this computer without any hard drives.
PCLinuxOS runs in the CDrom, boots in RAMdisc, and, I save stuff to my thumb drives, or, my gmail account!
Get your FREE download! It includes 1,600 games, programs, applications! Virus Free, hacker proof Linux!

Many downloads using Limewire are loaded with malware. You are not downloading from Limewire, you are using a piece of software called Limewire to download from stranger's computers all over the would.
