I know a lot of dart players and they have high hopes for change with the ESPN tournament.
What do you think?

A few years ago, I would have said it's impossible, but now, I don't see why not. It's certainly more interesting than poker and the games move very quickly.

The beauty of darts is that ANYONE with a $10 - $20 entry fee can enter a tournament and play against the top players in the world. If the top players enter the luck of the draw at a tournament (and they often do), you could even have them as a partner! There's no other sport where you can play with or against the top players unless you fight your way up there.

I have played against some of the top players, and have been lucky enough to be paired with a few.

poker will stay number 1 above darts but unlike the other 3 who answered if one is serious and good enough serious money can be made at darts last year i cleared $20,000 in extra income from weekend tournaments alone and i work a 9-5 job during week... but i have practiced and played to where i am not ur average dart thrower... and also some cities like charleston SC have businesses just designed for darts and dart tournaments..bottom line is there is more money in darts then people know of but will never over take poker

No way because darts will not help you win money like poker can. Poker is much more of a nationwide, maybe even worldwide game that is used for more purposes other than fun. I just don't see how espn can make an event like darts into something so dramatic. In poker you have chances and luck play in, whereas darts is all skill. Our adrenaline pumps when the chances play a key role, and darts does not have that excitement like poker has.

I think it will do wonders for the game, but I seriously doubt it'll get as big as poker has. JT said it right...the main reason that poker will be bigger is because you can play online. Online darts just suck. Also, anyone with a deck of cards can play poker...to play darts well you need to buy your own darts, have a board at home to practice all the time, and spend money on flights/shafts/etc. Don't get me wrong, I love darting. I just don't see it getting as big as poker has.

Just remember the famous words of Deep Throat, "Follow the money." Look at the sponsors for TV poker tournaments.

I don't see casinos making money on darts. In fact, I don't see bars making much money on darts. You can't play darts online. Who is going to sponsor it?

Doubt it since you can't do it online and some random guy does not have a chance to win $10 Mil if the cards fall right. The appeal to poker is the get rich mentality. It took on its largest popularity when Moneymaker an amature at the time won it.

It will not be as big as poker (which is boring to watch) but I hope it will be a hit on its own.
