Okay, so I just found a 5 ft black snake in my back yard. My husband who didn't see it claims that it has to be a blue indigo snake since appearently they are so common down here. Now before I go even further I need to let you know how deathly afraid of any kind of snake. I know that they help with mice and lizards and all that good stuff but I can't live here if they're going to be here. I've been crying for the past hour and have gotten sick twice already so please don't tell me to make friends with them.....I need to get rid of them. How can I get rid of these snakes in particular? We just moved into our dream house and I don't want to sell it but will if I have to. Please please please help!

Actually the blue indigos are very very common down here. We live very close to Mexico. I do know that they are on the endangered species list though. If ya want one, come on down!

Don't want to kill it, was asking about if any repellants actually work? I've heard all sorts of theroies like getting cats and all of that. Oh, and they may have been here first but they're not paying the mortgage!

You don't say where you live but I know they are protected in Texas, Florida & Georgia.
IF it is an indigo snake, they are legally protected in most states making it illegal to kill, injure, harrass or capture or keep one.
Indigos are completely harmless to humans. Indigos eat many different types of snall animals including rattlesnakes.
There is no effective way of "getting rid" of any particular snake & in fact if you are in one of the states where they are protected, it would be illegal.
I don't want to sound mean but you have ophidiophobia - an unnatural fear of snakes. You may wish to discuss this with your doctor.
Don't hurt the snake, learn to live with them. Remember you moved into their home, they were there first!

Since these snakes are endangered, it's kinda hard to believe that you have "lots of them" Are you sure that the snake is an indigo? (never heard of a blue indigo) If it is, you should call your state wild life commission & have them remove them, if they affect you that badly.

frist it is not a blue indigo because they are indanger blue indigo have a very noticable blue tent to them and only eat eggs.what you probly have is just a garden snake or a cotton mouth. what you can do is call a reptail catcher and let them know that there is a 5 ft snake in your yard pay the fine or take a ho and kill it. just rember that the snake is more affarid of you then you are of it

You most likely won't see it again, even if it is around ---really, most snakes are afraid of humans (for good reason)
Be glad it is a non poisonous one---if you got rid of it, a venomous snake might replace it
it Wont come into the house---

I was asking because I never seen one before. I saw it on a video. A worker was in the field (small oil tanks) taking this video with a rattlesnake in his mouth, he was a beautiful blue color. Didn't say if taken in Texas. Nice to know not poisonous. Thanks for the info.

There is a snake repellent that you can apply around your property that will keep them away. Worth trying so at least you can get some sleep at night.
