I am baby sitting one for a friend, long story, and actually, she is quite easy to take care of. she eats crickets that you can buy at any large pet store, and vegetables, except for spinach, which is bad for them. Also every other day, we need to put calcium on her food, because lizards dont make their own. This is a bearded dragon, and is now 18 inches long. We handle her every day, and keep her really warm. We also make sure that she has fresh water every day. I hope this helps answer your question. Her owner has a young daughter, and I would say that you shouldnt mix them with small animals like mice, or hamsters, but if you keep them seperate, they should be fine. I have a pet mouse and I just dont let them be together. As for cats, many are curious, and may knock over the cage or try to get inside so be catious, but most likely they should be just fine.

We have snakes and lizards. We have lizards that eat crickets, mealworms, mice and small rabbits. I like them both.
We have 4 kids(ages 13,9,5 and 3), dogs, cats and a ferret. The snakes and lizards do not roam the house, they are kept in cages when we are not handling them, so having children with them is not a problem. The kids know not to touch or open cages without one of us.
We have had both snakes and lizards for about 5 years now.

First of all let me state that I am a single mom and have 2 Auristic children and run a non profit agency for Pit Bulls and Reptiles...
I have several herps... 3 beardies, 1 Iguana, 1 Red Tail Boa, A Savanah Monitor and several Pit Bulls....
Not once has either of my children come into danger with these animals because I am a professional and very careful. I have taught my kids to be respectful of nature and not to just grab at something.
Each reptile eats something a little different. Iguanas eat nothing bt fruits and veggies and require a strict diet. Monitors eat nothing but meat, eggs, rodents and foul. Beardies are almost like little trash cans they eat whats left over from the Iguana and the monitor. You can feed live or frozen your choice but be sure to take it slow when changing a animal to a new food. They are just like us they have tastes and likes and dislikes....
If you have any questions visit www.kingsnake.com they have a forum there for questions... Good Luck!

I have an Iguana, and I do not let small children near him unless I am handling him. Iguanas have very sharp claws, and can whip with their tails. A tail whip from even a small Iguana can take a chunk of skin out of you. Iguanas require a special diet of vegetables and fruit with the proper proportion of calcium to phosphorus, and no animal protein. They also can grow to be about 4-6 feet long and require a very large enclosure with the proper lighting, humidity, and temperature. I don't recommend an Iguana for any beginner.

I have a red tailed boa constrictor, I've had him since april and he is awesome! hes very docile and tame and i've had him around my lil cousins so they're pretty safe w/ kids as long as you supervise, i've also had lizards b4 they were pretty cool also, they eat cricketts. I don't have any other animals besides my aquatic frog but hes stays in his aquarium so I don't exactly know how they are with other animals.
