Don't be scared. Themeparks have safety standards to which they must adhere to- not only for your safety, but theirs too! Cedar Point's rides are permanent- not the set up take down 'carnival kind' that go up and down in one weekend. If there's any doubt in safety standards, they close down a ride temporarily to analyze it. They won't risk it.
They've been around for a long time, they must be doing something right. ;-)
Start out with the 'tamer' rides: Gemini, Corkscrew, Iron Dragon, and then move up to the wilder ones.

First off, Cedar Point has on of the best safety records in the world. Every theme park walks every inch of every coaster before they open.
Ride smaller coasters and work your way up. Also, it might help to close your eyes on the lift hill. What helps me is to take a big breath at the top of the lift hill and let it out on the way down

People don't fall off roller coasters, especially at Cedar Point since it's so famous. If they had one accident, that would completely screw things for them.

Cedar Point has a perfect safety record and is safety insane (checking the restraint 3 times sometimes).

Not very. The Dragster is shut down every time the wind blows over 15 mph. It was shut down since the shrapmetal that is on the track flew off and inbedded itself into like 20 people, injuring them severely. Don't do there! go to kings island.
