500 or 50hp? Did you put a little thin piece of wire up the pee hole? Try that first, there's probably a little piece of gradeux blocking it. Are the intake screens clean? If that ain't it, you probaby need a new water pump.

I have had this problem before.
if your pumping water while in the water chances are your fine just a water pump geten old. If it only happens while the muffs are on , your water pressure is to low its hard to pump water all the way up there. While your boat is in the water its about half submerged and full of water.

If it's NOT overheating, then the water pump is working fine, you may just have a clogged hose on the "Tell/Tale" (or as it is refered to here "PEE" hole). Don't ask the marine store clerk for something to clean your "pee hole" with, you may get punched in the mouth.
