in my humble opinion:
hate is the opposite of love
apathy is the opposite of any passion
therefore, apathy is the opposite of both love, hate and other strong emotions

Between the two it would be hate. Apathy is having no feeling and emotion or lack of interest and concern toward someone or something. Also love used in this context is a verb so the opposite should be a verb. The word despise would be a better choice for the opposite of love.

I say that apathy is the opposite of love since love is a strong emotion as is hate, and apathy is the absence of feeling. Hating someone or something requires passion (as does love) and has prompted people to behave against their own best interests at times; as has love, e.g., sacrificing oneself for the sake of a loved one. When a person hates, s/he cares about expressing that emotion and how it is received; similarly, when one loves s/he cares about expressing that emotion and how it is received. When one experiences apathy, there is no passion, no caring, no concern.

Hatred needless to say, they are at polar opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. i could think of that the polar opposite of apathy could be compassion and not love. yet that is only My opinion.

Love= A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness

Hate= To feel dislike or distaste for

Apathy= Lack of emotion or feeling

So it would be hate
