I have never heard anything like that before.
I can see a situation like a guy who is a closet gay (maybe he hasn't admitted it to himself yet) saying he likes a certain girl who has a boyfriend. That way there is no pressure for him to make a move. She is 'safe' to like. I have guy friends that aren't Gay that do this too.

I wouldn't know why not. The fact that someone has a sexual preference doesn't make them unattractive to both sexes. I've certainly found certain men attractive only to be later disappointed to hear that they were homosexual.

I imagine they are attracted to people on or off the market as you put it. You can't control who you find attractive.
I find the question rather odd.
