It will depend on the severity of the injury. Primarily, range of motion is the most important thing. It doesn't take a long period of immobilization before you are unable to completely straighten your elbow. Your physical therapist will manually stretch your elbow and teach you how to do it on your own. Eventually, you will start strengthening exercises to return your elbow to normal. During the process, the PT may use modalities such as ultrasound and electric stimulation to decrease pain, if necessary. It is very important to go to PT, otherwise you may find yourself with more pain and limited function in the future.

Depends on the break, where it was, which bones where involved, the age of the patient, etc. Therapy can be done on your own but help from a therapist can decrease the time of recovery and increase the functionality of the joint. If done on your own consult the doctor who you saw and get some home exercises and stretches.

that's an answer that's up to a physical therapist. i snapped an acl and the physical therapy took over 6 months. everyone that i talked to while going though pt agreed that it was painfull, but the benefits are worth it. don't look on the net and decide to be your own councel, what worked for someone else may not work for you.

After it is healed?
Go to them and have them show you gentle streching exercises, followed by gentle strenghtening, then light weight lifting. This may take weeks... It is better left to the professionals to show you what to do so you do not reinjure yourself.
