Because they''re new, exciting and usually incorporate technology.
Yet movies sometimes loses the true effect and intention of the storyteller...
In earlier times, stories were passed down orally,( therefore the details and perhaps plot changes to a degree, sometimes creating other versions)..
A movie does this also... when the original rough script or story changes in order to accomodate the scene or actors... maybe the director didn't think that a certain scene was that important, and highlighted other things, and made some additions to make the movie flow together... It's a lot of craftsmanship involved and thus the director really writes a story using visual and auditory objects, as well as many other props and other stuff needed to tell a story from a certain perspective.
(Yeah yeah, some books were made after the movie came out.. blah blah blah)
As technology advances, it also sinks into our lifestyle as we demand for entertainment containing that technology. I guess you can say that it is the "modern" version of storytelling. It takes a perspective that a novel can't do. It focues attention within the boundaries of the screen and thus the special effects or mood withing the music...., it does things that words can't do physically to influence an audience.... and we like seeing that, we like to know the visualization and intention without complexities needed to process information. We want to know things faster...
Sometimes, we find it entertaining to see other perspectives on a story, such as the many series of Batman, each producer with a different take on the identity of Bruce Wayne and most particularly the storlyline.. and cool action and cool effects and the different bad guys... etc... Notice how so many written material has been made into a movie production, and perhaps further productions? Our culture enhances with advances in technology, in the way movies are made, or creative ideas come into power in relation to a theatrical phenomenon.
Basically, everyone needs a "wow" in our mundane existence. Movies are a great entertainment value.
Another valuable thing about movies is that it gets people talking... giving opinions, taking in others. It's a great topic in conversation, as we like group interaction and enjoying (or critisizing) movies with others. It's another way to be accepted in society.
Sometimes I wonder if the intention of certain movies was not valuable enough to be credited with the title "story" . Sometimes material culture takes us in and blocks out folk culture, making movies too generic. Besides that, I do agree that movies are the modern stories.

It is a way of storytelling. Not only that but it is a way to expand your imagination too. Have you ever put yourself as the main character in a movie? Guessed how the movie would end? Put a different end to the movie? It makes you think, gives you something to talk about with your friends, and gives you something to do when you are going out with people.

It is a modern version of storytelling, that's a reason, but also because it, even though is old, is become newer and newer, and when new things come, more people get excited, and also we can escape our own lives and escape reality with the faiy tale worlds of movies.

You can't possibly like the movies that much - only about 1% of them have any meaningful value. Unless you are a movie reviewer, there is absolutely no reason to see a movie every single weekend. It's a waste of time and most importantly a waste of your life. Do yourself a favor and read, explore, travel, meet new people, have an adventure -- a lifetime of watching movies is so unfulfilling.

Actusally, it depends on the person. Some people like movies based on real life events, and others may like movies that are spine timngling, and some like the adventure and fantasy movies. It's all about what your interests are. I can watch just about anything. I love romance, horror, science fiction, action and adventure, and realistic movies. Basically, I can just about run the whole gammit.

most movies end with a happy ending for the good and bad for the villain and that we lack in real life so,i guess we love movies because it represents the just and good world we can't live in nowadays.

Because when you see them on a big screen in a dark theatre, the action looks like it's really happening in front of you.
