My daughter is 6 months old and I haven't been using a highchair..the reason is I am living with my mother n law in a one bedroom apartment and its very small so I don't want to have a huge highchair in the way...well my mother keeps telling me that I need to get one now and if I don't use one she won't develop right.
I have seen some of the booster seats that you can strap into chairs...just wondering if anyone has used these and if they liked them?

Also is it true that she won't develop right if I don't use one?

I understand the lack of "room" in a room. We experienced the same problem early on in our daughter life. We found though a high chair that collapsed. It folded in half and then we just leaned it up against the wall. You might check eBay.
As for the booster seats...there are some that strap to chairs and there are some that clamp onto tables. You daughter being only 6 months old may need some added padding around her to help her sit up a little more.
Good luck.

Hi I lived in a very small house and didn't have room for a large high chair. So I went to wal-mart and bought a booster seat which came with a locking tray. Also booster strapped to chair. Works great! even when there isn't a chair to strap onto you could put on floor or ground and use this way. Works for picnics and or camping. Never used anything else even after I moved into my new large house. Good Luck!

The only way I can see her not having or using a highchair becoming an issue would be when the child gets a little older, say 3-7 when they can't seem to sit in one place while eating.
The highchair may be a way of them learning to be attentive while eating instead of walking around the house with a mouth full of food.

I have never heard that they will not develop correctly. That doesn't sound right to me! What sitting in a highchair (or booster) will do is help them to learn that eating time is not playtime. It will also be much easier to feed them. Fisher Price makes a booster seat with a tray that attaches to any chair. That would work great for small spaces.

I did use a booster seat type in restaurants and it worked fine. If that's all you have to use then I'd say it's not a big deal. She will develop just fine, but it's good to start table manners at an early age. In the long run, the type of highchair will have no effect on the type of girl you raise! They don't sit in them long enough to cause any damage! Good Luck!

Booster seats work great if you chose one wisely. As far as it affecting a child's development, I've never heard that. Some people never use boosters or highchairs. It's more of a preference/practicality issue. Including her at the table as she gets older is what's important, not where or how she sits. :)

I don't think just because she doesn't have a high chair she wont' develop right.. that is stupid.. I am sure they didn't have high chairs long time ago and our great great grandparents were fine.. A booster seat is great I have one for my toddler and it's nice.. I also have a 10 month old and when my toddler has to use our high chair instead of the booster I put her in the baby walker in the kitchen and feed her and she is doing fine.. I think your being considerate of your mother n law and her space.. do what you think doesn't take up to much room..

i don't see why she wouldn't develop from not using a highchair. that's hogwash. anyway, i wouldn't use a booster with a 6 months old, the height isn't usually right on them. but there are seats that hook onto the table with nothing underneath them and one of those would probably work really well especially if you don't have room for a highchair.

i have twins i got both of boosters and highchairs. let me tell u about the disadvantages of both of them. highchair is grait cause it has wheels so u move it arround in the kichen but it takes room.try fisher price (acuaruim) it is really good and the cushion made of nylon so u can whipe it off and get it clean. Booster is good too it doesnt take too much space cause u attach it to the chair but my daughter is a year old and when she seat on it she shakes her head and body so i feel like the chair is gonna fall of the floor.it is really scary. compaire the booster to the highchair from what i told u then u decide what u want to get her. good luck.

I have used the First Years seat for my grand daughter and it also straps to a chair. The main thing to remember regardless if it is a full sized high chair or the smallseat is to NEVER leave the child unattended, even for a minute. One bonus with the smaller seat is that it is portable and can travel fairly easily when eatting at family gatherings, restaurants etc.
