The condition of being an alcoholic is a permanent condition that they have to live with their entire life. Some are successful in staying "on the wagon" once they stop drinking and others fall back into drinking. In Bush's case, he stopped drinking without using a twelve step program like AA. People in AA will tell you that his behavior is symptomatic of "dry drunk syndrome" that happens when someone stops drinking without embracing a twelve step program. Some people think he is still drinking or started drinking again because behavior like we saw at the G8, the way he talks etc.
But once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic. It's all in how the person handles it.

Any good alcoholic who has kicked the habit will always refer to himself as an alcoholic, or a recovering alcoholic. It keeps them humble. You have to admit you have a problem with any addiction before you can truly begin to recover.
The stresses of being President when your country is at war and the media at home is fighting you as fiercely as the enemy is abroad must surely be great. But GWB has his faith in God, is married to a good woman and has surrounded himself with the very best people to help him see it through. We may never know the answer to your question. All we can do is pray for him, for our soldiers and for our country.

""""I am amazed at the stupid, vicious, vacuous, numbskull answers provided by some of you. GWB is far better than Clintoon, Gore or Kerry could have ever been. Those clowns would have given in to our enemies by now. They would have cut and run from the fight. They would have put out the Welcome mat for the terrs and we would have been hit again by now. You punks need to wise up... """"
Ahamm....9/11 happened in 2001 during Bush's Presidency: so he is the one who laid the WELCOME MAT so to speak. To make it short and blunt, you are what you say: a numbskull Bush-a.s.s-kissin punk. Your beloved ****** of a President didn't even fight in 'Nam like a real man (but Kerry and McCain did), thanks to Papa. And I won't even go into all the other crimes he has committed. I think your Shrub has created more terrorists than ever before with his arrogant monkey face. You might feel safer in whichever loony fantasyland you live in and you might credit this to Chimp-boy, but the fact of the matter is the WORLD HAS BECOME MORE DANGEROUS THANKS TO BUSH, NOT SAFER. Go get an education, before making such idiotic remarks.

Once an Alcoholic, Always an Alcoholic. However that doesn't
mean he still drinks. Is that a problem for you? If you are looking
for someone perfect to run for office think again. Nobody is
perfect. Clinton did pot. Big deal.

That would be an easy out for his bad performance over the past six years. History books would still talk about what a terrible president he is, yet they would finish with, "it wasn't his fault, he was drunk most of the time.......sometimes he blacked out and when he woke up Cheney was next to him and his underwear was inside out

Once you are an alcoholic, you're always one. This is regardless of whether you're the president or not. You're either recovering or not. Addicts are the same way.
