I suggest You make a back-up disc because You will lose all your files when You re-format, and then You need to re-partition your hard drive and re-install win-XP, besides what could You possably have that is so important or that You can't get again online? Just make a backup disc and put Your xp disc in and it will tell you or ask what You want to do.

The previous c:format command labored as a results of fact of fat partitions. domicile windows XP is an NTFS partition so doesnt artwork. ideal area of do is boot with a boot disk containing dos and delete all partitions then boot up off the domicile windows xp cd and enable it create a sparkling partition and you will possibly desire to have the skill to choose for the long format determination for ntfs that's a radical format. yet in simple terms delete and recreating the partitions is truthfully greater perfect than a format as all information is destroyed whilst the partition is deleted

reformatting eraces EVERYTHING! make sure you back up everything that you want to keep. Yes you will have to reinstall windows xp or another version of Windows. You will also need to reinstall any other programs that you have, MS office, etc.. After everything is setup, then put your backed up files back on your pc. Make sure you install an anti-virus program such as Norton or McAfee to protect your system.

May I ask why you are wanting to reformat your system? If you do not want to take such drastic measures, you might also want to try doing a "System Restore" back to a previous date and see if that works first.
