Do you live near a place that sells sewing machines or a good fabric store that sells sewing machines? They will often have sewing classes. Some communities have sewing classes at their Adult Schools.
Or do you have a friend or relative who sews and would be willing to teach you.

That's great! When I was in college I made nearly all my own clothes. I was such a fashionista! Ha! It is fun though if you have the time. I would get a basic, but good quality sewing machine, as you don't need all the bells and whistles. You could probably find a nice used one, as many people buy them but don't ever learn how to use them, and then they just get rid of them. I would then buy a really easy pattern with only a couple of pieces, like an apron, and look on the back and see how much fabric and thread you will need. Also, you will need to get bobbins for the machine if it doesn't have any. Additionally you should invest in a nice pair of cloth cutting scissors and some pins, to pin the fabric to the pattern,so you can cut it out w/out it shifting. Walmart is where I go to buy stuff like that. Have fun and good luck!

Go to Wal-Mart, find a very simple pattern in one of their books, like a doll or a vest or something on the easier side, get the cheapest material you can find there (they have material for a buck that isn't that bad) and make the thing. It's a pattern so even if you aren't all that pleased with the first one, you can make a second and third until you are happy with the outcome. Then you move on to something more complicated and so on until you can make whatever you like. Be patient with yourself!!!!! Good luck and happy sewing!!!

if you have a Joann's fabric store in your area then call them. they usually have classes on things like that. if not then try the craft stores in your area to see if they have any classes or you could try adult enrichment classes at your local school or community college
