Seems to me they operate about 20 decibels louder than the loudest factory model car. If a motorcycle can't meet the same noise restrictions that automobiles have to, why are they allowed to be operated in cities at all?

Many states loud exhaust pipes are unlawful. However sadly for what ever reason, it is being ignored by the police. That is where a petition and letters to your police agency, politicians and news papers to heighten awareness. In some cases the police are as guilty as the dirt bag biker.

LOUD PIPES VIOLATE RIGHTS and DO NOT SAVE LIVES

It is a matter of ego for the loud pipes with no fact or research to be presented for loud pipes. If you stand at a intersection and listen. You will be hard pressed to hear a motorcycle coming, but you sure will hear it leaving. It's called the "Doppler Effect".

I've been riding solo since I was 10, my first bike a 1948 Harley 125cc and then progressed through life. As a little toddler I rode in a side car or my dad would prop me on the gas tank. I probably had more time and distance on a Harley by puberty then most people have in their whole life. I'm 54 now and my only motorcycle injuries were on the track.

My family still owns a Harley Dealer ship www.spitzies.com and we all ride quiet. Riding skill, caution and awarness are needed when riding. Not noise, of which many bikers wear ear plugs which with the loud pipes, they do not hear emergency vehicles or other traffice. Plus too, if bikers are so concerned about safety. Why do they complain about helmets or wear non DOT approved helmets?

Unlawful noise either from a motorcycle, boom box car, car exhaust or truck of any nature is a invasion of home, yard and person.

Consider the rights of others or loose the privilege to ride. It doesn't have to be loud to look good.

Don't blame the motorcycle, blame the slob riding the motorcycle.

20 decibels louder than a FACTORY model car would still be quiet...they operate a lot louder than that. yes, some of them are almost too loud...but they do have a patent on their sound. i guess theres nothin anyone can do. also, harley davidson does make a quiet motorcycle. i don't know what model it is.

You must be the decibel meter if you know how much louder they are. All bikes are set from their respective factories at a certain setting. And just like cars, yes cars, bikes all have aftermarket options for louder exhaust. Are you sure you don't work for the EPA?

You obviously don't know what a decibel is, to begin with. Go bother the low riders. The damn jungle music is louder than motorcycles.

Do you use your mirrors? most people in cars and trucks dont pay any attetion to motorcycles. Loud pipes are noticable. Plus they make a bike sound better, give you more preformance to get away from the a$$holes in cars, and look better than stock pipes. so lay off of our loud pipes and look in your mirrors.

Quit down-grading Motorcycles
Start down-grading the big trucks that use their jake brake in city limits and their loud exhaust

motorcycles are only out there 1 or 2 times per week per driver, the noise can't be that bad on your ears like you are making it sound

Just cause you don't like them doesn't mean they can't have their fun and try to enjoy life like it was meant to be.

It's people like YOU that run their mouth that makes it hard for everyone
NEED I SAY MORE...?

They're not. Believe me, we get ticketed for loud pipes. But even stock pipes are loud on most bikes so I see what you are saying. We're no worse than those annoying *** Civics buzzing around everywhere, tho.

By the way, my aftermarket pipe saved my life more than once. WATCH OUT FOR MOTORCYCLES!

I've ridden for almost 20 years and I have to say a lot of people really hate loud pipes...me included. Just like everything else in life: when it starts to affect someone other than yourself, it's no longer YOUR right.
