Because some are good stories and some are not. Pretty, attractive, young, white people have their whole lives ahead of them and people are intrigued by that. That is who is mostly sensationalized. It may not be right but that is just the way it works.

Another thing is too since there are many people who don't fit that criteria who die everyday society almost gets calloused to paying attention to it. When a beautiful white woman comes up missing who doesn't have an abusive boyfriend or on drugs we perk up our eyes and ears a little more because it is rare when it happens.

The media chooses the most interesting ones to keep their viewers or readers. The media also keeps out a lot of crimes (especially in cities where tourism is a major money market) so that people don't get overly worried and think it's more dangerous than it actually is.

I know that may sound cruel, but that's the facts.

They pick people that could make the biggest impact on the news. Reporters are fighting each other for the best murder that would interest the public. Why would they report a nobody when nobody will care? Sad world, isn't it.

They just like to push buttons and tell the baby boomers what the in thing to fear is.
