Okay thanks for all of the help everyone but I have another that I just cant seem to get.....

One task took 7 minutes, a second task took 12 min, and another took 21 min.. How long did the three taks take as a fration of an hour?

do I add 7+12+21= 40/60 min divided by 10/10= 4/6 dived by 2/2=2/3 is this correct or am I missing somthing.

top marks, you've answered it yourself. hav more faith in the power of fractions! its easy, but forget the whole 10/10 thing, makes it more complicated than hav too. :)

You can also think of 40/60 as 4/6 (dividing both numberator and denominator by 10) and then further reducing it to 2/3 (dividing by 2).

Add them up to get total time

Express total time / 60 min (cos they are in minutes and 60 mins is an hour) as a fraction...
