It probably depends on the crime and the level of government. I would guess 1 or 2 misdemeanors may not permanently disqualify you. Felonies probably do.

you could get your conviction expunged or pardoned. or check, some jobs only restrict felons, or certain types of felons or certain years ago the crime had to have been. call the job you are looking at and ask
