heres a statement from the site
"In the face of that depressing situation, the state of California is taking action. Earlier this month, the state Senate voted 22 to 15 to prohibit textbooks or instructional materials that "contain any matter that reflects adversely" on persons because of their ethnicity, gender, disability, nationality, sexual orientation or religion."

Let's start a rumor that all of the Founding Fathers were gay... that way, teachers in California will be FORCED to actually mention their names, and teach some real history. Then, at the end of the school year, the teachers can say "by the way, the Founding Fathers weren't really gay, but how'd you like learning about them anyway?"
btw, Columbus DID discover America...by that, I'm not suggesting that no human had set foot on American soil before 1492...but there is no denying that Columbus was the person who brought America to the attention of the technologically advanced, civilized world and paved the way for Western civilization.
What Columbus found when he got here was not a bunch of blissful natives, living in peace and harmony...
He found a land sparsely inhabited by nomadic hunting tribes, many of whom were constantly on the verge of starvation. They had not yet discovered the wheel and had no written language. Tribe against Tribe - they lived a violent and brutal existence. Of those Caribbean Indians Columbus came into contact with, the Arawaks attacked and enslaved the Siboney. The Caribs feasted (literally) on both tribes.

You're Right! Oh my god! Who knows what'll be next? They'll be forcing kids to be gay!!!
*sarcasm*
your details are the stupidest thing i ever heard next to gay marriage leading to animal marriage
I don't think that's stupid, also, no one knows who the first gay person was.
At the rate our schools move through all sorts of history that's not preposterous. Kids in highschool would be more likely to be taught that. I think at most it would be a day to a week in a curriculum, not long at all really.
Kids learn about Chistopher Columbus in elementry school. Kids know the bloody ships' names for god's sakes! the names of the ships! they don't know, how columbus brought diseases with him to the new world(not syphilis though...), that he didn't "discover" america first, etc.
off topic>
Additionally, if people really want to get into it, it should be an optional secondary course. I think it's a step in the right direction. If it's added to the curriculum, it should be spread throughout, like black, asian pacific, etc. should be. or it should be a day or a week (tops) mention. if kids are never presented with the thought, they may never learn a thing.
And don't use a kid's Education as justification for intolerance

Not ridiculous at ALL! Christopher Columbus is bogus anyway. The Scandinavians and the Chinese and the Native Americans were here WAY before he was! What a scam!
Also, there's no way to know who the first gay person was. Man, you have too much time on your hands!
P.S. I'm also from North Dakota, so shame on you for being a homophobe!

"Earlier this month, the state Senate voted 22 to 15 to prohibit textbooks or instructional materials that "contain any matter that reflects adversely" on persons because of their ethnicity, gender, disability, nationality, sexual orientation or religion."
I'd say that's pretty fu**in' far from "teaching gay history".

Really? This almost sounds like "urban myth" or something Limbaugh might have imagined in one of his drug induced hallucinations. But if its true, its not a bad thing. People should know that gay people have made signifigant contributions, like Leonardo Da Vinci or Alexander the Great or King James (of Bible fame) or even Alan Turing, the inventor of modern computing and the guy who saved Britain's as s in WW2 by cracking the Nazi's Enigma code. Knowledge is Strength.

They don't teach Gay History in California...I live here I should know. They haven't started yet anyways...
To the bright person who asks why should they teach certain History courses...
How can you not teach Mexican or Black History in this country? Who do you think helped build our great nation? How do you think the U.S. acquired California, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, etc...? It wasn't that long ago either. Ignorance, that's all I got to say.

WOW.I am in Missouri and have never heard of that being taught. One more history lesson that has been twisted into a lie.Did you know Helen Keller was a communist? Did you know that Christopher Columbus pretty much invented the slave trade ? "Give me liberty or give me death" was not a war cry,It was part of a prayer said by John Paul Jones. Most of history is ditorted beyond belief.Check out the book "Lies my history teacher taught me"

I agree. Why should we single out the gay community and teach their history? This is a slippery slope, and next we will probably be dealing with the Mexican migrant workers who want their history to be taught in California school, then the Screen Actors Guild will want their own chapter in a history book, then of course the Scientologists will naturally follow...

Yep, pretty ridiculous...makes me wonder why they don't have a "Men's History"...after all, men are so egotistical...but the first gay person ever would have to have been a long time ago. Gay people are not a recent outbreak of a virus; they've been around for centuries.

I think it's stupid to teach gay history, black history, mexican history, etc.
I think there should be one history for this country, and teach it correctly and honestly no matter what the race of the person was. People from every color have contributed greatly to this country and race should not be a factor when talking about their deeds.
