The germs are going to get on the child no matter what you do and, since the dog is a permanent resident of the house, you need to have your baby build up a tolerance for it all as soon as possible. However, I always put a blanket down when I put my daughter on the floor that was the opposite color of the carpet. It was the imaginary play pen and I could just look over and see where she was every second or 2 based on the blanket. Hope this helps and congratulations on the baby!!

I put a blanket down at first even though we don't have a dog. Now that my daughter's 5 months she wiggles right off the blanket anyway. If you're worried about it, go for the blanket. My brother wouldn't let his baby down on my mom's carpet (she had a cat and a dog). My son crawled all over at my mom's and never got sick.

As soon as your son's crawling (or even rolling) he's going to be getting into everything anyway. You'll spend most of his youth trying to keep him away from dirty things (the garbage, the toilet, the dog, public bathrooms, etc.). A few germs are not necessarily bad (there are good germs too).

I would use the blanket always, becasue of germs, and hair, and stuff that can get on the floor. I would watch my dog around your baby because babies can get stepped on by the dog, bit, or scratched. Babies try and get the animals, grab them, and they aren't delicate about it, so your dog might bite your son, that is what happened with my parents dog and niece.

i have a dog and 3 cats i figure they all run around everywhere so its really not that big a deal i used to put a blanket down but learned quickly that a baby tat can roll or crawl wont stay on it for long so its just easyer to not bother just vacume and remember babies will get into more dirt then u know so a little fur wont hurt them

First off.....Germs are what keep your child healthy. Okay I know your thinking FREAK!! BUT hear me out!! Children that have moms (like my sister who BLEACHES everything in sight) constantly go to the doctor sick. WHY?!?! Because their freako parents are so worried about a little germ. Kids that are exposed to germs build an immunity to the germ and therefore do not get sick where as kids that have phsycho bleach everything in sight moms have kids that are constantly sick. I'm not saying don't wash your kids hands everytime they come in from playing. All I am saying is don't freak out. Yes wash your kids hands when they are done playing but don't bleach everything. AND doctors will tell you the same thing.

i did that, until my daughter became mobile, i cant exactly put a blanket on the entire floor of my house. i would continue to do it until your son starts moving around the house, then its pointless.

As long as your dog is clean and healthy you shouldn't have a problem. Just make sure it is up to date on shots and is wormed etc.. I have two dogs and the younger dog LOVES to play with my 11-month-old. She just learned how to throw the ball for the dog, and the dog brings it right back to her! I always make sure I wash my daughter's hands frequently, especially right after she plays with doggy.

up until my children were mobile..I always put a blanket down for them first...mainly just because I knew the blanket was cleanest..and too, it protected the carpet in case he decided to throw up, lol
