I was told that my vacation time would not be released untill all the paperwork was in. But how long shou;d I have to wait for a former boss to do paperwork?

depending upon your local laws I would believe that the reasonable amount of time to wait would be until the next regular pay cycle, unless you left just as one was about to finish/start then they might not have had enough time to get the paperwork into the payroll dept. Call on the next payday and ask if it's been cut yet, if they say no then let them know you'd be expecting it by the next one or you'll have to report them to the labor board.

I watied three weeks at a former job for my last check ... when I finally talked to my former employer about it she said she never even realized that I was gone.

I would say 3 weeks to a month is long enough

only until you are supposed to be paid the next time. After that, take it to the Labor Relation board in your city.

If you are working in Canada it is AGAINST THE LAW to withhold a check from an employee if "Let Go" or "Fired" for more than 48 HOURS!!!!!

if you got paid every 2 weeks, then it should not take any longer than your next scheduled payday
