How can this be? The only right protected really by the patriot act is the right to bare arms. Also, no one under 18 has any rights at all! How can Americans be free?

No freedoms have been taken away by the Patriot Act. This idea is one put forth by liberals who hate George Bush and his efforts to protect their foolish tushies.

Persons under age 18 most certainly do have rights. You have every right enumerated in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Don't let anybody tell you anything else. Are you under 18? Go commit a felony and see if you are not read your Miranda Rights when the cops arrest you. This idea that under-18s have no rights is stupid.

Americans are Free because we have it written into our founding documents that our freedoms descend from Goid and not from man. Americans stay free because we have brave young men and women who are willing to travel to foreign lands and kill our enemies there before our enemies can come here to kill us. And believe it or not, some people at the New York Times and others teaching at American universities think that's a bad idea.

Hmm I wonder, have you been arrested for posting this message? Whats that...No? Well Then there is freedom of speach. Lets move on, have we not assembled in some way here in this node of the internet? That would be peacable assemble...Okay Can I go to a Masque, a temple, or a church of my choicing? Yep...Freedom of religion. Okay now lets move on I have a right to a free lawyer, I have the right to face my accusors, hmmm I have a right to sit in my house with out worries of the police department running in to my house with out a warrant. So how do we have freedom? The Bill of rights will never go away, even if the patriot act took away some minor rights. So they want to know my library books...okay lets see I read some great biographies, and spooky books. Okay lets see if I call Al-queda I deserve to have my phones tapped. Start thinking in terms of right and privilages. Oh and by the way Driving is no a right. Had to put that in because most people don't even know thier rights.

You need to read the Patriot Act again...there are many "rights" protected under this act. Also, people under age 18 do have "rights." However, many "rights" such as the right to vote, is not available to people under age 18, because who wants 10 year olds deciding who is president? For that matter, the voting age should be raised to 21 (as in the past) because 18 - 20 year olds are typically too immature...

Simple: you're not.

Freedom must always be tempered by responsibility; you can be free to shoot random strangers from your in your backyard sniper tower, but you should take responsibilty for those deaths in the form of criminal prosecution. See what I mean?

The US has had more restrictive laws since 9/11 though, and more and more rights have been stripped away by the homeland security act and patriot act that the Declaration of Independence should be ready for the fire. Because if you speak out, you're a criminal and a terrorist. Shut up, watch your canned news and sitcoms, eat your fish sticks and "freedom fries" (geez, what a joke), and take your SUV to the mall so you can spend your money on consumer goods, like a real American.

Build a little cabin in Montana. Bring a shotgun, some ammo and a fishing pole.

The fact is, as long as people live together, there will be some give and take. When more people live relatively close together, more demands are made upon their society and culture. So, out of that, you get Law Enforcement, Legislators, lobbying groups, Home Owners Associations, and lawyers (to name a few) all of whom have a role in making, enforcing, and pushing rules upon everyone else in an effort to force everyone to get along....

.....some good that seems to do.

The fact that you can leave the US anytime you want, travel from state to state, etc, etc shows that you have freedom and rights. Enough said.
If you lived in N Korea, China, Cuba, and a few other countries, that wouldn't be the case.

Grow up. Check your facts, which you have none to check. You know not from where you speak. If you really believe Americans are not free, why don't you try visiting a 3rd world country.

get your facts straight palski...the patriot act has to do with verifying citizenship/permanent residency...the Bill of Rights gives us the right to bear arms...among other things.

and kids do have rights...they have the right to live in a safe environment, right to clothes, shelter and food... so where do see they have no rights?
