In January, I accepted a teaching position at an international school in Beirut for Sept. What should I do?

Well, I accpeted it in January...obviously not knowing that this would happen. I have talked with the directors, and they assured me once Lebanon was once again "safe" the school would open..............I am not sure of the legal complications regarding terminating a contract......

When you accepted this position,you were then unaware of the situation as it is now.Israel has said it will not attack schools hospitals etc If they do you can guarantee they'll claim these buildings were sheltering terrorists.However by sept.the game may be over.Play it by ear,by mid aug.you'll have a clearer picture.Make up your mind then....GOOD LUCK

Watch the news and wait.
In the meantime, contact the
State Department and see
what their stand is. There
might be a 'no travel' warning
for the entire area --
Aside from the school contacts,
do you know anybody in Beirut?
Check with them.

Patience is key here, and
let us hope you get to go to
Beirut and teach, as that
will mean the 'war' is
over.

I dont think you should accept the position as youwill be putting yourself at risk. Why do you want to do that? I am sure you can get a teaching position in another school.

I guess you'd need a lawyer well versed in international law. But, given the current climate I wouldn't go. Good luck!
