For the past week, there have been a ton of little black bugs that can fly (about the size of a sesame seed) crawling around in my pantry. I find them on the ceiling and on the floor (about 20 or so per day).

We came back from a month of vacation and the bugs have been here since. Does anybody know what they are and how to get rid of them?

Fact 1. bugs will not stay where there is no food for them.

Empty the pantry (and every other part of your kitchen), clean each and every shelf surface, nook and cranny with hot water and ammonia (I prefer the lemon scent) inspect each container, box and bag, replace as needed.

After the pantry.... top down cleaning of the kitchen with hot water/ammonia. Pull out the stove and fridge and clean every inch of floor by hand. Run a bead of ant and roach spray along the kitchen door and anywhere these bugs are coming in through. Your bug problem should be solved.

It sounds like these bugs have hatched in, and are living in something in your cupboard. Throw away the grainy foods, clean out the cupboard, and place Bay Leaves (yes, the spice) around in the cupboard. You only need 1 or 2 to a shelf. They are a natural way of getting rid of food pests. If they are still flying around in your kitchen, place a saucer of vinegar on the counter.

If they are black beetles - that is, they have a bit of a shell on them, then they are *in* something. Go through all your food - they prefer grains, but don't necessarily limit themselves to that. You'll know the source when you find it.

Meanwhile, vacuum them up everyday.

If they are tiny tiny flies (no shell), they're fruit flies (or drain flies). Make sure you take your kitchen scraps out every day, and clean your sink, and you should be fine.

keep your sink and drains cleaned and even cover the drain with a saucer or something. No water= no breeding meanwhile fly paper is a good short term solution
