Either Roosevelt.
Both had a hand in molding our country into the modern nation we have become, from the National Parks to The New Deal. Both were considered traitors to their class for their policies. Both were strong leaders.
They shaped our nation.

Definitely not FDR. If he had lived, he would probably still be President. This country would be "the land of the socialists." But that is not what you asked. The greatest, hmmm... I would have to say the greatest President would have to be George Washington. He led this country through its birth, its fight for freedom, and then walked away when he was done. There is no other case of a revolutionary leader who has walked away from the power. The U.S. citizens asked him to stay, and he still walked away. The man had class that no President since has been able to match. George Washington is by far the best.
As a side note, anyone who doesn't like George W. Bush, but claims to like Lincoln, has no clue what they are talking about. If they had lived during Lincoln's administration, most likely they would have hated him as much everyone else did back then. He was not a very popular President in his day. He was fighting a war that had early support, but lost that support over time. He instituted a secret police force to watch over journalists and their news companies. He broke all kinds of Constitutional Laws. If he had not said to hell with human life and picked U.S. Grant to lead the Union army, he would not have won the war and would be considered a complete failure. I know everyone will say he did and he isn't, but history is still out on the legacy of George W. Bush. The way things look now, it looks like everyone is right, Bush will go down as one of the worst, but things can change really fast for the better; just look at Lincoln.

I like Jefferson best. Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase and commissioned the Lewis and Clark Expedition, outlawed of the external slave trade, and reduced the national debt by half. He was the only Vice- President ever elected to 2 terms as President.
Too bad for Clinton. He could have been remembered differently if he had kept it in his pants

I vote for Abraham Lincoln, with George Washington a very close second. Both succeeded against enormous opposition and the country is better for their efforts.

It's a close call between John Adams and Ronald Regan. Adams averted a war with France that would have destroyed us, but Regan did what all the presidents before him couldn't or wouldn't, brought down the USSR.

Just as far as the shape he left the country in? Bill Clinton, without question.

NOT GWBush, that's for sure.
I think his extremely low support poll results show that when he's down in the 30 percents.
As far as more current presidents go, I liked Clinton.
