Well Sardonic, I can only answer for myself, I like tattoos. I had wanted one from the time I was 11 until I got my first one at 37. I got my second one at 48. I may get another one. For every person it is a personal choice. I don't do it because it's a fad. I designed both of my tats and had them done by (literally) a world renowned tattoo artist, Miller Cotton. I did not make the decision over night, nor do I care to take it to extremes. My tattoos are for my own enjoyment and I make my own statement. I believe the body is just another medium for art. I am not bothered that you don't approve, on the contrary, I don't need my ego stroked by anyone else. I like me, and my body. This was a very good question. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share my feelings. Nana

Nopers. I, as a woman with tattoo's and piercings can tell you why I done it. I have a tattoo of my grandmothers name, she was my best friend and passed away when I was 15. Ppl get tattoos for all different reasons, some to express there love for another. However, I myself have never seen the point in a "point-less tattoo" - meaning you have a tattoo of barb wire, a knife or something dumb. I feel if it represents a part of who you are then there's no big deal in getting one.

The cliché "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is really at work here. Some guys like tattoed women, I dig a lower back tattoo myself and hope my wife gets one. Piercing are the same way. It's the same for women: somel ike fireman's unifroms, some like dirty greasey rugged mechanics uniforms.

although i agree with your first statement, your attempt at romanticism is misplaced. some woman see their bodies as a beautiful work of art... in progress. that's why they change their hair style or color... lose or gain weight... decorate them with a variety of clothing and decoration... and get "silly things like tattoos and oddly placed piercings".
would you discourage an overweight woman who wants to lose twenty pounds because she would like herself better afterward? her body is her canvas. sure, in terms of how her body is adorned, sometimes less is more. but just like every other form of art, it is our role as observors to appreciate and respect where the artist is coming from, whether we like it or not.
The Mona Lisa is finished... some women by choice are not.

If you find a woman with the qualities and the look you desire, but also has the ink and metal, are you just going to mark her off the list and keep looking? Ms. Perfect is not out there and neither is Mr. Perfect. You don't have to settle, but you may have to compromise.

Everybody has their own opinions on what is beautiful! Some women choose to make themselves look more beautiful with ink, or piercings. It all has to do with personal preference, and what makes a person feel good about themself. I have tattoos, but they are not visible, only to my boyfriend, wink wink!

If done correctly, it can be like a nice frame and good lighting...it can enhance the beauty. "Art is in the eye of the beholder"
