Dog or cat or one or two of each. You'll have to decide what you like and how many you want. Starting with one cat is probably easiest, but if you prefer dogs then get one of those too. Do some research on breeds to see what you like and will fit into your lifestyle. Small dogs don't require as much exercise as larger dogs and cats don't need walked at all. Cats can be left alone a lot longer than dogs....you can go on a short vacation and leave your cats alone with proper supplies but a dog can't be left alone for that long. So really it isn't so much about the space as it is about your preference and your lifestyle.

Oh yeah, if you are single and want to attract someone of the opposite sex, get a dog because when you are walking it or at the dog park, people will talk to you.

Dogs require a lot of training and can be very destructive without proper exercise and attention. Cats are more independent and require a litter box and tend to vomit around the house, they also shed. Reptiles are great, an expensive terrarium is a real crowd pleaser, but reptiles require expensive housing and do not like to be handled. Horses are very expensive. Exotic pets like racoons and pigs can be destructive. Rabbits make great pets when given free roam and a litterbox, but must first be fixed. Rabbits that are not spayed/neutered can spray, bite, and chew on everything in sight. Parrots are wonderful, but require as much attention as a dog, but are not as destructive, but can be noisy. You need to make a list of all the things you don't want to deal with and go from there.

What kind of energy do you have?
What kind of time do you have to spend with your pet?
These should be the next questions you ask yourself.

No energy and no time, ~ fish ~

Lots of energy and lots of time ~ anything that suites your fancy ~

These questions are as important as space and money. Nothing is worse than a board dog or cat, they'll tear your place apart.

Get a reticulated python. The space you have will be awsome! and on hot days you can take him/her out in the yard and sunbath together!
be sure you have the interest thou, cause they live very long!

if reptiles, both small and big arnt your thing, then I'd say get a dog. There are so many dogs in the world without such space to run around on, it'd be perfect for both of you!

i would say a moderate to large sized dog ex.) a lab: they are great with kids, and enjoy a nice big backyard. since you have the money, get a fence: it will be the biggest expense, but will pay off. you could also go with a smaller dog like a cocker spaniel or beagle. to me, dogs are the most friendly animals, and can be great companions!!!

***May God bless you through all the days of your life.
